Paws and Claws -nail trims and why they matter.

Nails grow. That’s just a fact of life. Dogs and humans.

Sometimes we may not think that our Dogs need nail maintenance.  After all, isn't walking outside going to help keep their nails short?  Yes and no.

While walking on pavement and concrete can certainly provide some wear, it is important to pay attention to your Dogs paws - walking is not enough.  A Dogs nails have a huge effect on the health of their joints and overall physical comfort and health.  Walking on too-long nails can have long-term negative health consequences.  If you can hear your Dogs nails clicking then it's time for a trim.  Click here for a bit more in-depth info.

There are a few ways to tackle your Dogs nails.  Clippers are an obvious choice, and while they are quick and efficient, it is also easy to cut too short and damage the "quick" - not pleasant for your Dog or you!

At Fluff'd Grooming we prefer filing or grinding.  We find that grinding, when done well, is very effective, and allows us to get a healthy, short, and well-rounded nail.  It leaves no ragged edges and makes for easy comfort for your Dog when walking, and over time your Dog’s nails will be easier to maintain.  Our Groomers prefer it and so do our Dog clients.

Nail grinding is part of our Signature Groom, or can be done on its own.  Give us a call at 503-684-5074 to schedule your Dogs appointment today.
